NYFW: Blogger Packing Essentials

Guess what is two weeks away? Guess what is coming our way? Must be NYFW, Must be NYFW, Must be NYFW.....

The best time of the year is almost upon us and as glamorous as it may appear, the preparation can be stressful if you do not organize yourself ahead of time. You will be busy enough heading to shows, attending events, meeting new people, and posting all day, so the last thing needed is a migraine from a heavy Louis on your shoulder! Packing your bag before hand is great and will help you prepare faster during the week in the morning. This will guarantee that you will have a smooth running day. The way to have a successful NYFW is all survival of the fittest: come prepared, pumped, and professional.

Life Lessons from a Pageant Girl

Well sorry I have been completely MIA for a a good bit of the month. This month was my state's teen pageant and I competed. It took months of preparation, but it had to be one of the best weekends on my life. I did not win the pageant, but I do get to continue to represent my regional area as a local titleholder. The amount of friendships that I have made in one weekend is amazing and I am so excited to go back. I had done a few other pageants in the past, but this has to be the biggest one that I have done so far. Pageants can be extremely misunderstood due to all of what the media puts out, but trust me, there are many types of pageants. I promise you that over 95% of pageant systems require a certain presentable eloquence and the ability to be articulate while being confidently beautiful at the same time. It is all about radiating from the inside, out. There are many lessons learned that apply to everyday life such as:

  1. When all goes wrong, keep your head up and smile. It does not matter if your shoe broke, you fell on the stage, or completely forgot your name. You must learn that in tough situations, you must fix your problem quickly and remember the show must go on.
  2. There will always be undercover competition. You honestly can never tell which amazing girl will win. Every judge is looking for something different and there are too many factors to guess. You are your only competition because you can't predict others outcomes!
  3. Enhance, do not cover. You can only go but so far by covering your true self up! At the end of the day, your true colors will show so be yourself. Trust me, perfect is out. People like quirky talents and fun facts about yourself!
  4. You can help others without doing huge deeds. One extremely important thing I learned is being under pressure. Something as simple as helping a girl who is already in a gown and needs help to fix her shoe can be a huge help. Maybe a quick hairspray assistance perhaps? Every little deed means a lot when you need a hand.
  5. Working with all sorts of people. In life you will deal with everyone! In different stressful situations people have many reactions to nerves- they may laugh it off, become defensive, or stay quiet. Who knows? Learning how to help the people around you and learn to work together is the most important lesson.
  6. Confidence isn't a choice, it's a requirement. The point of growth in pageants is confidence. You must be able to feel good within yourself before you have the full potential to change others lives.
I truly recommend pageants to any girl wanting to try something different. They are truly life changing and you will learn so much about yourself while preparing. It is currently Miss Universe season as tonight is the preliminaries competition and this weekend will be the finals. Make sure you tune in the Miss Universe pageant this weekend! xoxo

New Year//New Adventures

What is the fun in continuously doing the same routine? Change should be side by side with adventure and that is something we are lacking. Trying new hobbies and activities will make you reach your A-game. Sometimes you just need to treat yourself and do something new that makes your creative energy flow. There are many ways to feel rejuvenated again for a new start that are extremely simple and does not even have to include shopping or vacationing! So here are a few ideas to get you started in boosting your adventure...

1. Make a difference for others. This holiday was a huge eyeopener for me and I really noticed how many children and families were going without any gifts into the holidays. Things that may mean nothing to many means the world to some in need. My modeling agency and a couple model volunteers decided to do a holiday toy drive for a few local families. It is never too late to help others, so get out there and give back to your community!

2. Experience a new era. When was the last time you visited a museum? If your answer was your last field trip in elementary school, you have some homework to catch up on! I personally love going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art which is gigantic and features so many countries. You honestly get to learn some interesting things and it won't break your wallet. This is an current exhibit at the Met called "Death Becomes Her" featuring mourning fashions through the centuries. This is a topic that would have never crossed my mind but it was spectacular because I never realized its huge impact.

3. Restaurant explorations. I recently realized that I was constantly sticking to my safe, regular restaurants when there are loads of delicious, local owned cuisine surrounding me. Trying specialty foods are great and it is show here as I grabbed some sushi while running errands on 58th St. The problem in today's society is that we are always on the move that we aren't always "enjoying" our meals, we are just eating because we must in order to survive! Find a nice nearby eatery, and not only will you be supporting local, you will probably have a better knowledge of what you are actually consuming and enjoy it.

4. Bath time. With a crazy schedules baths are probably out of the picture, but finding a nice spa night is fabulous and nothing is better than a bath bomb. I am obsessed with Lush and my recent favorite is "Space Girl" which is purple and sparkly! The aroma is great and it is so relaxing. A relaxing bath is medically proven to release stress and increase circulation and muscle elasticity, so go ahead and take a dip!

5. Find a secret hide out. Living near the Hudson River consists of 315 miles worth of nooks and crannies of relaxing spots to picnic or kayak. Exploring your own town is great because there are numerous historic landmarks that you probably never knew about. Have a tourist day and learn more about what you have been living in forever.
