Matchy Matchy

Am I the only person that doesn't know what to do because I have so much to do? I'm sitting here writing this post with an empty suitcase in the next room that needs to get packed for my NYC trip this week. Mind you it's 12:30pm and I have to leave the house in 30 minutes to head to a party and I am still in pajamas and in desperate need of a meal. Luckily, I do have a pretty good idea of what outfits I'm packing for my trip though! I wore this co-ord set recently with matching rings from Gamiss and I say it all the time, but co-ord's are the most genius thing ever. This is completely 100% random, but this set reminds me of one of those pretty china vases and I really like it. I love sets that take no thought to wear, are simple to pack, and can match pretty much any pair of sandals.

My main purpose for this trip is because this is my last year taking precollege courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology and I'm gonna miss it for sure, but I have learned so much over the years from their summer classes. I've done fashion journalism, personal branding & self promotion, and this year I am going for public relations in fashion. I'll miss those good ol' fashion related assignments and making friends from across the world (all the way from Colombia to Canada!) with the same interests.

I've got a tooooon of stuff planned while I'm staying in the city for the week. Whenever I go anywhere, I have a thing for jamming my schedule completely. Relaxing vacations confuse me because you could have just stayed at home and done nothing, for free. On my agenda ranges from shooting collab looks to some five-star dining and a lot more in between. Make sure your following @raquelringgold on Insta to keep up with the daily summer adventures! xxx

Always be Different

Smiling because high school is over, in the past, dead and gone. Graduation is in a few days to seal the deal, but either way I am so glad that is over with. My eyes are glued on the future and what is to come. One thing I learned from high school teenagers is that everyone tries so hard to conform to who is around them. People have like twenty personalities depending on who they are around and don't even know which personality is actually authentic because they are always switching trying to please others. Maybe that is why me and my one personality never really fit in, but thank goodness for that or I would have never found my career and have been given these opportunities.

This sweater is pretty different if you ask me. It's all about perspective and stuff. If I say I'm going to put on a black sweater, that doesn't mean it can't have a twist. Always opt for what is a little special, a little different, like this bell sleeve sweater from Romwe. Only I can take a sweater and turn it into a lesson on life. Romwe makes me feel some type of way...like I want to shop all day.

A Package a Day

I am on such an online shopping high, it is bad. Between me constantly clicking "add to cart" and work packages-the mail carriers probably hate me. I've been working with Born Pretty Store for the longest (that promo code "MRYT10" comes in clutch for a discount) and always look forward to their goodies. From the cutest ear cuffs (check out this one and this one) to literally anything else.

What can I say, shopping is the best stress reliever.

Marist SNR '17

Earlier this month on May 5th was another successful (and glamorous) Marist Fashion showdown. This made my fourth consecutive year attending the Silver Needle Fashion Show at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center and I am not sure how they do it, but seriously it gets better and better each time. With a new creative runway layout, the designs were displayed longer on the stage as the models weaved through an intricate path allowing me to have extra time to droll over the beyond fabulous, phenomenal, intricate, I need to buy it all, designs on the runway.

I received this mint two-piece set from Amiclubwear the day before the show and knew I HAD to wear it. The color and texture is such a fun statement, so I had to bring something NYFW worthy to Poughkeepsie. It also happens to be ultra comfy...I mean the pants are stretchy! Doesn't get better than that. Amiclubwear has had my back for every occasion.

On the runway I saw everything from off-the shoulder to plunges and everything in between. No designer was alike making each collection so very special in its own way. I found that unlike many things I see at fashion week, these designs can be worn as is without looking costume-y. I love looking at designs and being able to tell the story or get the gist of the theme immediately. There were a countless number of pieces I could picture myself buying off-the-rack and wearing just as the models did. Many garments had very memorable statements that are still stuck in my head, but that's 100% alright with me. Fashion on the brain 24/7.
See some of my favorite looks below!

Thank you Marist Fashion for inviting me!

Satin Street Style

These Shein joggers are simply revolutionary I tell you (aaaand Shein's prices are insanely affordable). I live in joggers, so throwing in this little luxe satin twist makes it fashion. I've always had a soft spot for street style because it is guaranteed to be comfortable and for the most part there is not much styling involved.

I love throwing pieces together because why not. Black crop tops and white sneakers get you far in the world of basics, and the rest of the outfit can be the wow factor. Track joggers are evolving outside of the gym and I am 100% guilty of stocking up on them because they are so ridiculously easy to wear. This pink satin pair is super different from any others I've seen making them my newest obsession. Honestly years ago I probably would have never worn these because they seem risky for daily wear, but thank goodness I learned
...it's not a risk, it's just fashion.

LipSense

Feels before: lied to, betrayed, etc. Why? Because for years I have been trying lip products of all sorts (gloss, sticks, stain, mattes) and sure, many have been great, but I didn't realize how much I have been missing. One word: LipSense

LipSense is considered to be a long-lasting lip color (18 hours to be exact..CAN YOU BELIEVE?) that does not budge and is vegan/made with natural pigments. Imagine not having to touch up for hours...this is the life. I mean this to the point where you can vigorously rub your hand back and forth over your lips and the color isn't going anywhere. It's some type of magic, I'm convinced. Also, I'm sure you know by now that I am a fan of makeup that is also skincare, so I love that this contains cosmetic alcohol which is a great natural skin exfoliator and bacteria killer.

With the starter kit you are given the essential trio: lip color, clear gloss, and remover. There are 36 shades in the collection and my current favorite worn here is caramel apple. Lemme tell you how this works:
1) begin with clean lips
2) apply 1-3 even coats (I'm wearing one coat in this picture and the pigment is so strong)
3) add the gloss to seal the color-which happens to be very hydrating and it will keep the color on all day
4) use the remover for any ooopsies

The actual formula is like a very thin lipgloss, but dries matte. This shade particularly looks really natural and is a gorgeous rosy shade. I have a habit for wearing shades like this often, but LipSense is the first that I would easily give 10/10. Since it isn't sticky like a lipgloss, it feels practically weightless. Seriously though, the fact that this really stays on your lips like a stain is golden because who doesn't love the assurance that your lipcolor isn't going to flake, disappear, end up on your teeth, or whatever else.

Keeping Up with Raquel

It's Thursday meaning it is practically Friday meaning that I need to pick out two party outfits for this weekend. I'll be around at my modeling agency for an event, so I may just possibly do a bit of vlogging. If you haven't checked it out I did three videos so far on my YouTube channel, so go get a bag of chocolate covered almonds and watch! I'm still stuck with what I want to do with YouTube. I really enjoy watching vlogs and such that are real and not overly edited, so I think I'm gonna head in that direction. More videos are on the way!

Bringing Peplum Back

When the inner pageant girl in me arises, I have a soft spot for anything frilly. So, lemme just try and bring peplum back because I seriously love this top, and this necklace pairs great with it. The pieces have a little bit of a vintage look to it which I appreciate. Not that this is authentic vintage, but I love when things speak for itself making it effortless.

Wishing all of you a killer week! You've got this (fill in whatever "this" you are trying to achieve)...

Call It A Day

On that Sunday when you have had the longest weekend and lack energy to put together a look, the only option left is to throw on a hoodie, leggings, and baseball cap, and call it a day.

Yesterday was one of those out alllll day days where I was up at 6am to go to the city and managed to hit an Earth Day street fair, attend a grand opening, stop for ice cream like a three year old, head to a party, and then go to another party outside of the city. Everything went well, but guys my highlight is that I finally got to eat a poke bowl which is sorta like a sushi bowl if you didn't know. BEST THING EVER. Not sure why it took this long for the poke trend to get going, but it is so delicious. You must try y'all.
